Serving as a Legal Shield: Daryel’s Mission to Protect the Vulnerable
How Daryel Legal Aid Center provides protection and empowerment to those who need it most
Our Mission Statement
To serve as a legal shield for vulnerable individuals who cannot afford legal counsel and representation. We empower women, children, persons with disabilities, prisoners, and IDPs by ensuring they receive a fair trial and that their dignity and legal rights are protected.
Primary Beneficiaries
Daryel’s mission specifically targets the most marginalized and vulnerable members of Somali society. These groups have been identified as particularly in need of legal protection and advocacy:
Women
Facing unique legal challenges related to family law, inheritance, and gender-based violence
Children
Requiring specialized protection in legal matters affecting their welfare and future
Persons with Disabilities
Often excluded from legal processes and facing discrimination in multiple areas
Prisoners
Frequently lacking proper legal representation and vulnerable to rights violations
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
Facing complex legal issues related to displacement, property, and documentation
Mission in Practice
Daryel translates its mission into action through several key approaches:
- Ensuring Fair Trials: Providing legal representation to guarantee that vulnerable individuals receive fair hearings and due process
- Protecting Dignity: Advocating for the humane treatment of all individuals within legal systems
- Legal Rights Education: Empowering communities with knowledge about their legal rights and how to claim them
- Systemic Advocacy: Working to improve legal systems and policies to better protect vulnerable populations
The mission of Daryel Legal Aid Center represents a commitment to transformative justice—not just handling individual cases, but working to create legal systems that are more equitable, accessible, and protective of the most vulnerable members of society.
